What: identifies a thing or an animal as the subject

 

Example:

Brad walks. -> Who walks?

Brad = noun

Who = pronoun

 

The gym opens. -> What opens?

The gym = noun

What = pronoun

 

Words asking about a possessive noun

Whose: the question word used to identify possession or ownership.

 

Examples:

It is yours.

Whose is it?

 

The bike is hers.
